Johannes Willem (Jan) Viljoen (1812 - 1893 ) was a South African pioneer, soldier and hunter. He was a veteran of the Battle of Boomplaats, one of the leading figures in the Transvaal Civil War and the First Boer War. As a hunter he trekked through present-day Botswana and Zimbabwe and claims that he discovered the Victoria Falls three years before David Livingstone .
