Published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1965, hardcover, illustrated, 264 pages, 23.5 cms x 32.8 cms x 4.3 cms, condition: very good.

Really beautiful book that covers the history of Japan from the very fist art objects through about 1930. Always liked asian art, and the authors skill at linking it with the island's history made for a great experience. I may even remember some of the facts, since I had such gorgeous illustrations to hang them on.

This is a book of incredible research, and art pictures. It is also a fantastic reference on Japan's History. It is divided into sections, so that the reader can follow in details the dates, the events, and the art that developed with time. It has been a wonderful book for my references, and in teaching my students about Japan.Strongly, strongly recommended.
