SUPER RARE LOT/SET OF TWO IDENTICAL ANTIQUE BOW PORCELAIN DECORATIVE WALL/CABINET PLATES WITH RED ANCHOR MARKS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 1760 - 1776

EACH OF THESE TWO COLLECTORS ITEMS IS STAMPED/MARKED BY HAND WITH THE RED ANCHOR AND DAGGER MARK, USED BY BOW OF LONDON PORCELAIN COMPANY BETWEEN 1760 and 1776 WHICH WOULD MEAN THEIR MANUFACTURE IS ALMOST ENTIRELY BY HAND.    AN IDENTICAL DECORATIVE PLATE IS HELD TODAY IN THE COLLECTION OF THE LONDON BOROUGH OF NEWHAM

THE LOT/SET CONSISTS OF TWO IDENTICAL DECORATIVE WALL / CABINET PLATES WHICH BY THEIR ADVANCED AGE COULD EASILY BE CONSIDERED MUSEUM PIECES AS EXAMPLES OF THE INTRICATE BEAUTY OF PORCELAIN/CERAMIC ITEMS MANUFACTURED DURING THE 1700's BY BOW OF LONDON PORCELAIN COMPANY.   DECORATED IN COLORFUL PHEASANTS / BIRDS OF PARADISE AMONG GREEN FOLIAGE ALL WITHIN HAND PAINTED CARTOUCHE FRAMES UPON A COBALT BLUE GROUND

THE BOW PORCELAIN FACTORY (1747 - Closed 1776)  WAS AN EMULATIVE RIVAL OF THE CHELSEA PORCELAIN FACTORY IN THE MANUFACTURE OF EARLY SOFT PASTE PORCELAIN IN GREAT BRITAIN.  BOTH FACTORIES WERE LONDON BASED AND THE FIRST IN ENGLAND.  BOW PORCELAIN WAS ORIGINALLY LOCATED IN BOW IN WHAT IS NOW THE LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS, BUT BY 1749, HAD MOVED TO NEW CANTON EAST OF THE RIVER LEA, TODAY IN THE LONDON BOROUGH OF NEWHAM.   DESIGNS BY BOW PORCELAIN IMITATED CHINESE AND JAPANESE PORCELAINS AND WARES AND FROM 1753, MEISSEN FIGURES WERE COPIED BOTH DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY.    THE WARM, CREAMY BODY OF BOW PORCELAINS IS GLASSY AND THE GLAZE TENDS TOWARDS IVORY.  THE PASTE FROM WHICH THE PORCELAIN IS MANUFACTURED CONTAINS BONE ASH.    BOTH BOW AND CHELSEA PORCELAIN FACTORIES CATERED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE LUXURY END OF THE MARKET.

THESE TWO ANTIQUE PLATES ARE DECORATED IN THE JAPANESE KAKIEMON STYLE FROM THE 17th CENTURY PRODUCED IN THE HIZEN PROVINCE AROUND ARITA WHICH SHARES MUCH IN COMMON WITH THE CHINESE "FAMILLE VERTE" STYLE.   ANY OF THESE PIECES ARE CONSIDERED ARITA WARE AND HIGHLY PRIZED COLLECTORS PIECES TODAY.       GEORGE MICHAEL MOSER IS KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN THE MODELLER OF SOFT PASTE PORCELAIN ITEMS FOR BOW PORCELAIN FACTORY.  HE WAS A KEY FIGURE IN ENGLISH ROCOCO MOVEMENT AND A FOUNDER OF THE ROYAL ACADEMY.

STAMPS/MARKS ETC : EACH ITEM IS HAND MARKED IN RED WITH THE BOW ANCHOR AND DAGGER MARK
