Known locally as College, Maritzburg College is a public school for boys situated in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. It was founded in 1863 and is the oldest boys' high school in KZN – as well as being one of the oldest schools in South Africa. It has produced many Old Boys who have distinguished themselves, and its rugby history and heritage are without equal in KZN.

This softcover 126-page record of rugby at Maritzburg College was co-authored in 1990 by the school’s late “Mr Rugby”, Skonk Nicholson, and the (now retired) Deputy Headmaster and resident statistician, Tony Wiblin. It provides a fascinating review of the origins of the sport at the former Pietermaritzburg High School (now Maritzburg College) from 1870 onwards, and the book’s primary content is made up of very readable year-by-year reviews of each First XV season, up to 1990.
 
The book also offers all the First XV results from 1870 to 1990 (a very convenient resource, should debates about old matches need to be settled!), the names of all the players to have represented the College First XV, biographies of former coaches, lists of all former captains, test caps, provincial players etc.
