                                        This inaugural ran from March 1316, 2008 and was held in the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

The  Joburg Art Fair is the worlds first contemporary art fair devoted exclusively to art from Africa and the single largest commercial collection of African and South African contemporary art. The 2008 fair included twenty two galleries from Africa, Europe and North America  showing works  predominantly by artists from this continent. There were also public talks and an exhibition curated by Simon Njami called, " As You Like It.''

Participating galleries included: Goodman Gallery, Everard Read Gallery, David Krut, Warren Siebrits, Art on Paper, Rooke Gallery, Gallery MOMO, Art Extra , Joao Ferreira Gallery, Michael Stevenson, SMAC, Whatiftheworld, Bell Roberts, also the Townhouse Gallery (Cairo), LAppartement 22 (Rabat), ASNI Gallery (Addis Ababa), Gallery Ames dAfrique (Strasbourg) Jack Shainman, Perry Rubenstein (both in NYC), and the October Gallery (London).
