This lovely collectable piece is in good condition -- I found all the info about the piece on worthpoint.com -- here is the info from this website:
John Biccard was a renowned South African artist from Capetown who worked with crushed marble. He passed away in 2006. Figurine is ivory colored with black details.Obviously Biccard made these to look like real Ivory. This figurine is quite heavy considering its size. He stands approx 10cm high and has a depth of just over 7cm and a width of approx. 6cm. The artists initials are on each piece. Every one of John Biccard's pieces was hand finished. This (see photos) Bulldog is dressed in a military costume (general?) fitted out with medals. He has a very smug, self important demeanor and is obviously used to being obeyed. You can see how much detail went onto this piece to make it so dimensional. The folds on the dogs face are remarkable. Any collector of dog and animal miniatures will appreciate this really interesting figural piece. General Bulldog would make a fine addition to your porcelain, metal or glass display objects. Bakelite collectors may find this piece interesting as well. A perfect addition to display on your etagere. Mr. Biccard created many really lovely, whimsical pieces These unique, lovely creations would make wonderful holiday, mens or womens birthday presents or add a lot of value to your own collection. These editions are obviously very limited and therefore quite scarce.
