This specimen is extremely fine, is numbered 11445, and marked Silver on the reverse.
The John Chard Decoration was in use from 1952 to 2003. It was awarded to members of the Citizen Force who completed twenty years qualifying service, provided they had already earned the John Chard Medal (for ten or twelve years’ service). The decoration was named after John Rouse Merriott Chard, the lieutenant in command of the supply depot at Rorke's Drift that was attacked by Zulus in January 1879.
