Maker's Mark: "JS" with a A (star device) - attributed to John Scofield, one of the leading

London silversmiths of the late 18th century. Scofield is especially known for his candlesticks and fine

silverwork; this is an early example of his mark (pre-1778, when his solo registered marks appear).
