Description: Johnson Brothers "Old Britain Castles" Blue Transferware Saucer.
The saucer has an image of Kenilworth Castle as it appeared in 1792. The pattern was available in blue, pink, and brown variations, with blue being the most popular. The production of Johnson Brothers was discontinued after the Wedgwood Group was acquired by Fiskars in 2015.
The "Old Britain Castles" pattern depicts scenes from the 1700s, such as "Kenilworth Castle in 1792" as seen in the image. The saucers themselves were produced as vintage items, often cited as being made from the 1930s onwards.
The general fascination with British castles stems from their rich history, architectural grandeur, and their role as symbols of medieval power, romance, and folklore. They represent centuries of British heritage and are popular subjects for historical art, literature, and collectible items like this transferware pattern.
Made in England.
