JOSEPH RODGERS & SONS, SHEFFIELD - ANTIQUE BONE HANDLED CARVING SET IN PRESENTATION CASE - COMPLETE
EXTREMELY RARE Antique Bone Handled Carving set in the ORIGINAL presentation case. A set so well preserved and cared for that each individual cutlery item in this EXQUISITE set remains to this day in EXCELLENT condition.
The Presentation case is manufactured from wood and finished in a stately black leatherette with a white and silver trim. Silver Hinges and frontal clips ensure the Presentation Case functions smoothly and correctly and each clip is stamped on the inside flap -- "PATAPFOR" -- this in effect means The "PATent APPlication FOR" the particular style of clip. The presentation case astounds and holds further in AWE by a thick and solid Midnight Blue Velvet layer into which the Cutlery nestles, each item slotting comfortably into its original demarcated place. The Lid is embraced inside by a padded layer covered by a rich and luxurious white silk. In Gold directly in the Silk Center is -- a "G" and an "R" below which is -- "JOSEPH RODGERS & SONS Ltd, SHEFFIELD, Cutlers to HIS Majesty" followed by a STAR and a MALTESE CROSS. This particular mark of the star + cross was first registered by Joseph Rodgers in 1764. The "Ltd" placed at the end was introduced in 1871
This MAGNIFICENT set is COMPLETE and consists of the following items::
1- TWO identical Carving forks. Each stamped -- "Rodgers Patent" with the star and maltese cross. Each Carving fork is equipped with a UNIQUE Fork GUARD, which turns on itself (lift and turn it around and it slots into place). The guard serves to protect ones hand from accidental slips of the Knife while Carving. The GUARD can then be slotted back against the tines AFTER use and when the Fork is placed on the table, the guard also functions to prevent the tines from touching the table. BOTH Forks are in PERFECT condition with NO rust, stains, scratches or damages. NONE are bent. EACH is 26cm length..........2cm width at widest part of tines .......... 2cm width of handle at widest part..........1cm handle thickness
2- A Knife Sharpener which is stamped on the blade -- "JOSEPH RODGERS & SONS" with the star and cross. This item too is in PERFECT condition with NO rust, damages or breakages. 31.5cm length..........1.2cm diameter of blade at widest part.......... 2cm width of handle at widest part ..........1cm handle thickness
3- Large Carving Knife which is stamped on the blade -- "Joseph Rodgers & Sons, Cutlers to His Majesty, Sheffield, England" and the star and cross. The blade has been sharpened and therefore has minor scratches at the cutting edge. It is EXTREMELY sharp and in PERFECT condition with NO stains, rust or damages. 35.5cm length..........3.5cm width of blade at widest part .......... 2.5cm width of handle at widest part..........1cm handle thickness
4- Smaller Carving Knife which is stamped on the blade with identical stamp as Larger Carving Knife. This Knife is in PERFECT condition with NO scratches, damages, rust or breakages.
