By George Clayton Atkinson, edited by A.V. Seaton
The first volume of a planned two volume production of journals and watercolours commissioned by the author, whose manuscripts had been unpublished in the possession of the Scott family of Northumberland. Although these travels occurred later than his visits to the Hebrides and Shetlands, his journals covering his expeditions to the Faroes and Iceland were considered historically more important, his accounts of these places being one of the earliest by an Englishman.
Published by The Bewick-Beaufort Press 1989, in a limited edition of 875 copies, though this copy is neither numbered nor signed by the editor. It was a review copy of The Observer, with possibly the signature of the reviewer on the limitation page. Quarter Leather with marble boards, without the slipcase. Gilt titles with four raised bands to spine. Preliminaries, 32 full page plates, 8 maps in 187 gilt-edged pages.
