		Soccer star David Beckham bore beads on the June Vanity Fair cover.

Rosary beads as a style statement, not a prayer ritual, are hot with stars. "It has come back again," celebrity stylist Charlie Altuna says.

In the mid-1980s, Madonna, who was raised Catholic, raised eyebrows and launched a fashion craze by wearing crucifixes and rosaries with corsets. Eventually, the look became "cheesy" and faded away, Altuna says.

But, like many '80s trends, rosaries "are cool again" with celebs. It's highly unlikely, however, that the pope will bless the trend this time around, either. Altuna suggests the new fad has roots in the Britney Spears/Madonna connection.

Recent sightings:

•Spears. Before she was hobbled by knee surgery, the singer strolled through the streets of Dublin earlier this month wearing all-white rosary beads.

•Marlon Wayans. The actor (with brother Shawn) showed up at the MTV Movie Awards on June 5 in a look that layered rosary beads with several chains and necklaces.

•David Beckham. Soccer's hunky Brit was photographed in May for the July issue of Vanity Fair. He brought along his own rosary beads by Dolce & Gabbana, the favorite designers of Beckham and wife Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham.
