Julienne cutters are very useful. You can use them to create strips for carrots, cucumbers, potato (matchstick chips, hash browns, rosti), sweet potato, parsnip, apple, firm pear and kiwi, chilli, ginger, garlic, etc. Create salads, stir-fries etc. All you need to do is give a little dig into your fruit or vegetable (for example a carrot or as in the picture a cucumber) and with even pressure slide the full length. An excellent slicer . You will do a better job than any expensive machine.
Don't confuse this item with the white plastic rubbish you might find at the check out counter of Fruit and Veg city. You might think such a useful item as a Julienne Cutter would be carried by our shops, but you would be wrong! At Home? They don't have it. They only have the Julienne Pealer, not the same thing actually.. Woolworths? Don't even ask. Even the specialist boutique kitchen shops don't seem to have it. At least all the ones I tried in Cavendish Square Cape Town don't. So snap up this unique opportunity at a bargain price! Prices of these imported items will only rise when the rand depreciation kicks in.
