Light striking Azotic Topaz, bounces back in a rainbow, multi colour effect. The colours seem to come alive and dance all over the topaz. The magical effect is spectacular
The process which produces this effect is a patented closely guarded secret. The process involves heat and pressure so the coating is ¿baked¿ from 1 ¿ 2mm into the surface of the gem. Since Topaz has a hardness of 8, there is no chance that with normal wear, the coating will rub off
One interesting aspect of Azotic coated gems is that the table (front face) of the gem, looks quite different from the pavilion (back facets) of the gem. From the front, you look right into and through the gem, yet the face is alive with these glorious rainbow colours ¿ an effect that is quite unique and fascinating.
