   A Top quality Blue Star Sapphire. 

   I did many years of exploration Geology for a mining company and had quite a significant mineral/crystal collection. From there I moved to faceted gems. I never bothered with cabuchons much - until recently when a collector friend showed me his Star Sapphires. Wow! I quickly changed my mind about these beautiful and beguiling gems. 

   Star Sapphires are very popular as Jewelry and as collectors items because of their great satin sheen with a fascinating play of 6 Star rays dancing across the gem as it is turned in sunlight.    

  This gem is opaque and none of the small imperfections seen in these enlarged photo's are visible to the naked eye. The polish is classy and it has an exquizite high sheen with excellent 6 star rays.
