Kunzite does not photograph well - The actual gem is a stunning, sensuous, hi-luster pink.
Known as the "evening" stone, Kunzite was discovered in 1902 and named after G.F. Kunz - Tiffany's chief gemologist at the time.
It is not available in large quantities and demand has increased dramatically in the last few years. It is now a very pricey gem on the market and much prized by gem collectors.
The pavilion (back facets) of most Kunzite is deep and this is to take advantage of colour intensity. The colour and depth combine to give a sensuous and luxurious look to the gem.
Examination with a loupe shows a master cut gem with exceptional finish, polish and luster. There is a scratch on the pavillion which you can see in the picture. It is only just visible with careful examination from the table and does not detract from the overall luster and beauty of this gem. The gem in hand is breath takingly beautiful.
