Natural, extremely rare and valued CRYSTAL CONTRA LUZ OPAL. Transparent quality with excellent rainbow colours (Red, Green, Blue, Purple and other colours of the spectrum) when observed "against the light". The gem must be viwed wit ha light source behind or from the side. The colours are bst seen in good sunlight or under medium strength incandesent light. Very low opalescence is displayed if this gem is observed in low light or under a cloudy sky.

This gem opal comes from Ethiopia, source of the highest and best quality Contra Luz Crystal Opal world-wide, by far exceeding quality of Mexican or Honduran stones. Ethiopian Opals are the most valued of ALL opals on current markets. Commercially mined for less than 10 years and predicted to exhaust current mines in 12-15 years. Typical retail of these gems is up to $3,500 per carat.
