A world class, natural, extremely rare and valued CRYSTAL CONTRA LUZ OPAL in Transparent Colourless quality with EXCELLENT Play Of Red-Green-Blue-Golden-Purplish-Lavender and other Colours Of The Spectrum.
Ethiopian Contra Luz Opal is one of the more sought after varieties of Opal. Gems with good colour and fire are THE most expensive of all opal varieties. Prices reach up to $3,500/Ct - much more than Tanzanite.
Rare - From the Famous Yita Ridge mine in the Shiwa Provence of Ethiopia, source of the best quality contra-luz opal. It has only been commercially mined for the past 12 years and it is expected that the source will be depleted in another 10 -15 years.
The opal is Octogon cut. It is classed as Si1 and there is no damage to any of the facets.
A Beautiful Clear to Pale Orange Water-Like base with a touch of contra-luz (against the light) or “ghostly” touch of Violet, Green, Red and Orange opal sheen when the light enters the gem from the side or behind. It must be seen to be appreciated. Please note – this gem needs to be kept moist to maintain its contra-luz luster.
