Each gem sold for over R300 comes with

  • You are looking at a AAA+++ Top quality Mexican Fire Opal.

Fire opals are unique pieces of Nature in its most beautiful form. Their warm, fiery colour speaks of vigour, and fullness of life. They were admired as symbols of fervent love among the ancient peoples of Central America. It was believed that a gem that bubbled over with such life could only have been created in the waters of paradise and they called it the 'stone' of the bird of paradise'. The Mayas and Aztecs loved fire opal and used it in mosaics and for ritualistic purposes. Today, the fire opal is regarded as the national gemstone of Mexico.

The fiery, warm glow of the fire opal beguiles jewel enthusiasts the world over. This radiant orange simply cannot be overlooked! Not all fire opals are the same. Play of colour, body colour and transparency are the three criteria which determine the price of a fire opal. The more transparency and 'fire' it has, and the more intense the colour, the more valuable it will be. Mexican fire opals that are dull are called "sleepy" - this gem is WIDE AWAKE - PASSIONATELY SO!

With a hardness around 6 fire opal requires a protective setting, especially when worn as a ring stone. In spite of their relatively low hardness, opals are not easy for the cutter to work with and attention must be given to the direction in which the stone shows its play of colour to the best advantage

¿Looking under a 10 x loupe shows the gem to be Flawless to VVS1 with Intense AAA Orange Fire (Cannot get better orange). The gem has been master cut and polished to professional perfection. The only reason this gem is Flawless - VVS is because of 2 Very Small chips on the girdle - you can see this in the photo on the left at bottom right and on the photo on the left at bottom left. Remember that the image is magnified up to 100x so these are in no way visible to the naked eye, nor do they detract in any way from the intense beauty of this Fire Opal.

This gem is a HIGH Quality collectors gem - it will be displayed with pride. As a piece of Jewelry it will be OUTSTANDING and cannot fail to draw attention. A gem of this quality can only be seen as an investment and is bound to appreciate in value.

My supplier ( an AIG qualified gemologist ) suggests the retail at $500

A supurb gem, really happy with this one. A trouble free easy transaction and, in my opinion, a recommended seller.
