This is a LARGE and BEAUTIFUL Tri-colour Purple, Magenta and Golden Yellow Ametrine. The actual gem is even better than the pictures! Concave Cut Ametrines have doubled in price over the last year because of scarcity and high demand.
The purple/gold of the ametrine is divided in half across the gem. The gem has been well cut and has a stunning interplay of changing Purple, Magenta and Golden Yellow as it is moved.
This gem is classed as VVS2( 100% eye clean). Under a 10 x jewelers loupe there is no damage to any of the facet faces or edges. It has excellent fire. The result is a High luster, Hi end quality gem.
Concave Cut gems are generally significantly more expensive than traditionally cut gems. This is due to the following:
1) Higher weight loss (i.e. you get less carat weight from the raw material)
2) The additional labour required (It takes longer to facet concave cut than traditionally cut gems)
3) The market realities of supply and demand (Many people want concave cut gems and the supply is limited)
The Concave Cut is a three dimensional conical shaped facet applied to the pavilion of the gem that creates depth as well as length and breadth. Instead of the facets being joined by an angle, they are joined with a groove. This third dimension allows the gem to refract more light, thereby maximizing its brilliance. The Concave Cut also distributes light more evenly, giving the gem a stunning interior glow. Some gems increase up to 100% in brilliance when Concave Cut.
