An exquisite Oval cut Imperial Topaz. (The greyish striations at the bottom of the pictures are just reflections from the cutting table!)
Imperial Topaz is one of the most expensive and sought after varieties of Topaz. Under a 10 x Jewelers loupe the gem is classed as VVS1/2 (100% eye clean) with no visible damage to any of the facets.
This Imperial Topaz is valued at $1182 for on-line shops. You would pay at least 40% more in a retail Jeweler. The pictures are of the actual gem on auction and the actual gem is better than the pictures. You can check the on-line value at gemval.com
All the input details are given below - when you get to colour , input #033. I have checked this out with gemval as they do not specify Imperial Topaz. While there, check the value chart - colour #033 has a value of $71.90 per Ct. If you look at colour #022 (medium light reddish orange - strong) you will see the price jumps to $125/Ct. Now compare the colour chart with the gem pics above and you will see that it could easily be #022 and not #033. I have kept the evaluation at the latter because I am conservative by nature. Colour #022 would make the value $2071!!
While there, also check the historical value chart - unfortunately they only give values for the cheaper topaz ( still the best blue at $19/Ct) as rising 15% year on. You can be assured that imperial Topaz has appreciated more and that this is an investment quality gem.
