Emerald is one of the most highly prized of all gems and good quality gems are difficult to source. A flawless, clear emerald is very rare and usually found only in very small sizes.
Nearly all pictures of emerald do not do justice to the gem (as is definitely the case here). In 99.9 % of the cases, the actual gem is FAR more beautiful than the pictures capture. Somehow the pictures wash out the faceting and the intensity of green. If you have never bought emerald on line from pictures, you will be WELL pleased with this gem - Guarenteed.
The gem is classed as SI but is very clean. This picture is magnified and the small flaws are barely visible with the naked eye - it strikes the eye as a brilliant emerald green throughout with no banding or colour variation. It has a deep pavillion which always brings more fire to the table. The cut/finish is excellent and the result is a good clean looking brilliant green emerald with a high luster. (Much better than the image on the right)
Almost no emeralds with good color are inclusion free. This does not reduce the value of the emerald as long as they do not take away from the durability or beauty of the stone. In fact, unlike many gems where inclusions reduce gem value, inclusions in Emerald (and Ruby) are seen as "fingerprints" that proove authenticity & enhance their unique beauty and value.
This emerald comes from the recognised world leading mine for quality emeralds - Muzo Columbia. Like any good quality item these gems command high prices - in excess of $2,000 per carat at internet prices. I have appraised this emerald at R16,000 plus - you would pay more at a retail jeweler.
Although I have classified this as a collectors/investors gem, the cut makes it an excellent candidate for a stunning, much loved, much worn, center stage ring that can be worn with pride at Royal events.
