Pictures of Kunzite rarely capture their actual beauty and this one does not do justice to the gem. It has an exceptionally high-luster sensuous pink fire.
Known as the "evening" stone, Kunzite was discovered in 1902 and named after G.F. Kunz - Tiffany's chief gemologist at the time. It is not available in large quantities and demand has increased dramatically in the last few years. It is now a very pricey gem on the market and much prized by gem collectors.
Examination with a loupe shows a well cut gem with a good finish, polish and luster. The gem is classed as VVS2. The colour is top medium pink AA and luster is +++. Under a 10 x loupe there is some VVS abrasion to the pavillion apex. You can see it in the middle of the left hand picture. This is not visible to the naked eye.
