Light striking Mystic Quartz bounces back in a rainbow, multi-colour effect. The colours come alive and dance all over the gem. The magical effect is spectacular. The process which produces this effect is a closely guarded patented secret. The process involves heat and pressure so the coating is "baked" up to 1mm into the surface of the gem. Quartz has a hardness of 7 so with normal wear and tear, there is no chance that the coating will rub off. You can pass this gem down to your heirs!
Concave Cut gems are generally significantly more expensive than traditionally cut gems. This is due to the following:
1) Higher weight loss (i.e. you get less carat weight from the raw material)
2) The additional labour required (It takes longer to facet concave cut than traditionally cut gems)
3) The market realities of supply and demand (Many people want concave cut gems and the supply is limited)
The Concave Cut is a three dimensional conical shaped facet applied to the pavilion of the gem that creates depth as well as length and breadth. Instead of the facets being joined by an angle, they are joined with a groove. This third dimension allows the gem to refract more light, thereby maximizing its brilliance. The Concave Cut also distributes light more evenly, giving the gem a stunning interior glow. Some gems increase up to 100% in brilliance when Concave Cut.
