Light striking Mystic Topaz bounces back in a rainbow, multi-colour effect. The colours come alive and dance all over the Topaz. The magical effect is spectacular. The process which produces this effect is a closely guarded patented secret. The process involves heat and pressure so the coating is "baked" from 1 - 2mm into the surface of the gem. Topaz has a hardness of 8 so with normal wear and tear there is no chance that the coating will rub off. You can pass this pendant down to your heirs.
The concave cut is a 3 dimensional conical shaped facet applied to the pavilion of the gem that creates depth as well as breadth. Instead of the facets being joined by an angle, they are joined by a groove. This 3rd dimension allows the gem to refract more light, thereby maximizing its brilliance.The concave cut also distributes light more evenly, giving the gem a stunning interior glow. Some gems increase by up to 100% when concave cut.
You will find that concave gems are generally more expensive than traditionally cut gems. This is due to the following:
1)Higher weight loss (i.e you get less Ct weight from the raw material)
2) The additional labour costs Longer to facet and more expensive equipment needed)
3) The market reality of supply/demand( high demand/limited supply)
