Kyanite is not a common gem and commands high prices on the market. It comes in a variety of colours such as deep blue, white, gray or green. Most Kyanite is very included. It also tends to show banding or colour streaks. Kyanite has the interesting property that it's hardness varies according to the direction of the crystal plain.
The name Kyanite comes from the Greek word kyanos which means 'blue'. Because of the varying hardness (from 5 to 7), if the gem is to be used for jewelry, it should not be used in a ring but rather in a brooch or pendant.
This Kyanite is a brilliant AAA Sapphire Blue with stunning Fire - much much better than the picture. However, please note that crystal plain striations are clearly visible in the gem. The on line/web based price is R1,400 - you would pay more at a retail jeweler.
