For those not used to buying sapphires on line, here are a few pointers.
It is estimated that over 90% of sapphires on the market are heated to improve colour and sauration. However a lot depends on the original quality of the gem. Many heated sapphires have some colour banding. Look carefully at the pictures. However, pictures can be taken that do not show this banding. If in doubt - ask the seller a question.
Poorly cut/poor quality sapphires have windows (pale patches) or dull spots. Again, pictures can be taken that do not show these. So if you are looking for a quality sapphire - ask a question first rather than spend good money on a dissapointing gem - and then have to fight for your money back.

Should you require an independant certificate from a GIA certified gemmologist, the costs over and above the winning bid are:
1) Authentification - ie. That they are genuine/natural sapphires weighing 1.10 Ct = R100
2) Valuation - As above plus clarity and retail replacement value given = R200
