Sphalerite is a Rare collectors gem that has a dispersion rate OVER 3 TIMES THAT OF DIAMOND!!! (It sparkles even MORE than a diamond!!)

That is why in the hand or in a jewelry setting, this gem can easily be mistaken for a DAZZLING HOT Orange diamond. It is predominantly Brilliant Orange and the actual gem is FAR Far better than the pictures.

Larger gem quality material is rare and most clean gem quality/cuttable crystals are small. Collectors pay a premium for gems over 1 carat. The gem is classed as VS1. Under 10 x magnification there is a VS chip to the girdle - you can just see it in these magnified pictures at bottom right. This is not easily seen with the naked eye and could easily be hidden in a jewelry setting. Do not let the VS1 put you off - This gem is STUNNING as it is. If you have never bought Sphalerite - you will NOT be dissapointed in this gem- GUARENTEED!

Sphalerite departs from diamond in its hardness – it is rated as 5 on the Moh’s scale and as such should not be set in any piece of jewelry that will be worn regularly. It is much better set into a pendant or brooch.
