Offered for sale is a stylish, midcentury modern Kalahari studio pottery platter/shallow bowl made in the Cape in the early 1950's. It is a hand made and decorated item shaped to emulate a short spear or arrow head with a cylindrical handle . The platter is made from red bodied clay, glazed in a black satin glaze. The border has a scrolling motif of Bushmen hunters and antelope raised in shallow relief and picked out in bright turquoise, vanilla and rust . The design is by husband and wife team Aleksanders and Elma Klopcanov expatriate Latvians who emmigrated to South Africa in the 1940's
