Kamerade - Johannes Meintjies (rare first edition)

 A collection of short stories written and illustrated by the famous South African artist and historian Johannes Meintjies. 

Published by Edina Press in 1947. Deckle edged pages. 

In very good condition, text clean and clear, a few age related stains on endpapers.

No dust wrapper. 

Published in 1947, 'Kamerade' was written and illustrated (1944-1946)

during Meintjes' early to mid-twenties, between 'Maggie Laubser' (1944) and

'Lyrical Work/Liriese Werk' (1948) and appeared in a limited edition of 500 copies,

of which 25 were not for sale. This copy is not numbered.

As this is a limited edition of 500 copies, a number of art collectors have bought this book

solely for the prints, which are by definition limited to an edition 500 copies each

(and a few signed in the plate).
