Karin Jaroszynska. An Introduction to Her Oeuvre
by Leoni Schmidt
This introduction to the work of Karin Jaroszynska has been requested by the Everard Read Gallery in Johannesburg to coincide with the artists fourth solo exhibition in April 1989 under its auspices. The introduction is not, however, limited to works on this particular exhibition, but has rather been conceived as a key to an understanding of her work over the past thirty years. Hopefully, other art historians will put this introduction into perspective by their own contributions towards the continuous exploration deserved t by Karin Jaroszynskas oeuvre.
Karin Jaroszynska studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (1951/1956) in her home town of Helsinki, Finland, where she met and married fellow student Tadeusz Jaroszynski. They moved to South Africa in 1957, first farming for two years in the district of Pietersburg, then moving to Parktown North, Johannesburg. Later they moved to Sweden, finally settling in France.
Jaroszynska had her first solo exhibitions at Gallery 101 in Johannesburg and Gallery Strindberg in Helsinki in 1965, and continues to exhibit regularly in South Africa and Europe. Her work is included in the collections of the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the Pretoria Art Museum and the South African National Gallery among others.
Karin Jaroszynska was a South African Post-war & Contemporary artist born in 1934. Karin's work has been presented at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $153 USD to $14,635 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork.
