Zimbabwean born,  Keith Alexander is well known for his desert art, inspired by the Namib Desert and his preoccupation with ruins overrun by rank growing vegetation. He died at the  age 52 in 1988. He had an international reputation as South Africa's foremost realist and surrealist painter.
