This novel, about a modern day sniper, is based off of the Gunnery Sergeant's own experiences in Desert Storm. The main character is named Kyle Swanson. Like Coughlin, Kyle is a Marine Gunnery Sergeant and sniper. Kyle is sent into Syria, along with his comrades, to assist in the rescue of a kidnapped Marine General. This novel, while not the greatest ever written, is one of action and suspense.

The author juxtaposes a story of middle eastern action, with coersion and deception in Washington. The action begins with the kidnapping by former U.S. service members. These mercenaries, "sharks", kidnap the general on the eve of the General's planned speech to the House armed services committee. The General is not in favour of privatising military usage. The Sharks, as private assassins, seek to dismantle the General's presentation in the House. The shark team, with assistance from U.S. Congresswoman Ruth Hazel Reed, National Security Advisor Gerald Buchanon, and rich businessman Gordon Gates, seek to bring down the United States Armed Forces.

They set up an ambush in Syria to kill the Marines, including Kyle, when they land in country. The Syrian have a few tricks up their sleeves that assist in the reader not knowing what is exactly going to happen. The reader thinks they have it all figured out, when Coughlin spins the story and throws a curve ball.

Dead Shot

In Baghdad's Green Zone, an Iraqi scientist is murdered just before he can reveal the secret that Saddam Hussein took to his grave: the location of the Palace of Deathhome to a devastating chemical weapon quietly developed by Islamic militants.

The assassination is the work of a mysterious sniper called Juba, who was trained by the British but now works with a twisted mastermind determined to steal control of the terrorist world from Al Qaeda. When he tests the new weapon by killing hundreds of people at a British royal wedding in London, the devastation is all too real.

Kyle Swanson, once the top sniper in the Marine Corps and now the key member of a secret special operations team known as Task Force Trident, is assigned to hunt down his old special ops rival. A new reign of global terror can be stopped only by a confrontation between the two best snipers in the world, a duel in which the first shot winsmost of the time
