This coin is part of possibly the largest British Farthing Coin Collection (spanning a period of well over 300 years) ever put up for auction in South Africa. The total collection is conservatively valued at R10 000.00
Our second coin in the collection offered here was minted in 1723 under the reign of King George I of England. It is in Fine condition and has a catalogue value of R400.00 in this grade!
George I was born on 28th May 1660 son of Ernest Elector of Hanover and Sophia granddaughter of James I, and inherited the English Throne on a technicality. He was thoroughly German, did not want to learn English, and spent over half his reign in Germany.
He brought two mistresses with him to England, while is wife ironically languished in a German prison on a charge of adultery.
His reign created a government that could run independently of the King. The office of Prime Minister was created in 1721. He also kept England out of war for is entire reign, and he died on 11 June 1727.
Bid with confidence as all my coins are guaranteed 100% for authenticity. See the following picture of this 284-year old coin of King George I (with a catalogue value of over R400.00) on auction here and let¿s start the bidding with a zero reserve ¿
