Country: Tanganyika (now mainland Tanzania).
Period: British Mandate (issued before the full unification of stamps under "Kenya, Uganda & Tanganyika" in 1935).
Issue Date: Between 1927 and 1931 .
Subject: King George V (Profile Head) flanked by two East African Crowned Cranes.
Inscriptions: "TANGANYIKA" (Top), "KENYA UGANDA" (Bottom).
Denomination: 1 Shilling (1/-) .
Note on Denomination: Although the value in the corner looks very much like "1c" (One Cent), this is actually the 1 Shilling stamp. The "s" in the typeface used for this series is small and curved, often mistaken for a "c".
Why it's not 1 Cent: The Tanganyika issue of 19271931 did not include a 1-cent value (the set started at 5 cents). Additionally, the 1-cent stamps of the neighboring "Kenya & Uganda" issues were usually mono-colored (all black or all brown), whereas this stamp is bi-colored.
Colors: Black (center vignette) and Yellow-Brown (frame).
