A Huge Gilded Medal to Commemorate the Centenary of the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1999. Comes inside an impressive wooden case lined with blue velvet.
Gilded. Mirror fields. Upright milled edge with no marks. Neither is there a mark elsewhere to indicate the composition of the underlying metal.
Diameter 100.0 mm. Thickness 7.7 mm. Mass 474 gm. An image together with a R5 coin illustrates the size. It appears that the rim has been filed down slightly before the medal was gilded to exactly fit the recess in the case.
