KUAN YIN (BUDDHIST GODDESS OF MERCY) BRASS STATUE 13CM HIGH

THIS IS A BEAUTIFULL BRASS STATUE OF  KUAN YIN THE BUDDHIST GODDESS OF MERCY. SHE SITS CLOTHED IN A DRAPING ROBE WITH AN EXPRESSION OF PEACE AND HARMONY ON HER FACE.
 
Kwan Yin is the female form of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion (the Goddess of Mercy), but is often depicted as both male and female to show her limitless transcendence beyond gender. Her name means "she who hears the cries of the world."

THE GODDESS OF MERCY AND COMPASSION KUAN YIN IS FOUND IN ALMOST EVERY BUDDHISM TEMPLE AND HOME IN THE WORLD.
 
She who observes all sounds of suffering in the worldthat is the meaning of the name Kuan Yin.

Known as Kwun Yum in Hong Kong, she is exalted in Chinese folk religion. In Taoism and Buddhism she has a transcendental position few can claim.
 
Kwan Yin originated in India as Avalokiteshvara, the male bodhisattva of compassion. He was introduced to China in the early centuries of the Common Era, but apparently there was a hunger for a feminine face of compassion, and by the eighth century female forms of Avalokiteshvara emerged. By the ninth century, Kwan Yin had become the main representation of compassion in China, and from there her veneration spread across Asia. Eventually, she became known by many names, including Kannon in Japan and Quan Am in Vietnam.
