Kya: Dark Lineage is a 2003 third-person action-platformer for the PlayStation 2, developed by the French studio Eden Games and published by Atari. The game is considered a cult classic or "hidden gem" of the era, blending exploration, combat, and platforming elements.
Plot Summary
The story begins with a young girl named Kya and her brother, Frank, who are suddenly transported to a mysterious world through a hidden room in their home. They are immediately separated, and Frank is captured. Kya befriends the gentle, dog-like native inhabitants of the world, called Nativs, and learns that they are being brutally oppressed by the evil ruler Brazul, who is also revealed to be Kya's father. Brazul is using dark magic to mutate the Nativs into monstrous, wolf-like creatures known as the Wolfen.
Kya's quest is to lead a rebellion to defeat Brazul, find Frank, and restore the captured Wolfen back to their original Nativ forms by "exorcising" them. Liberating Nativs is central to game progression, as they return to their village to open shops and provide Kya with new abilities and power-ups.
