The Empress Eugenie's visit in 1880 to the place where her son was killed in South Africa is the odd link that brings together this lively account of two extraordinary women journalists who were in Natal and the Transvaal between the Ango-Zulu War of 1879 and the Transvaal War of 1880-81. They were the pseudo Lady Avonmore, and Lady Florence Dixie.
Spine-band is sunned; gilt titling is bright.
The paperblock edges are dusty/tanned.
The front end-paper has been neatly removed.
