Offered for sale is a collectible rare Lalique crystal serving tray or platter in the Wheat pattern and dating to circa the 1930's. The platter is lead crystal with a clear and polished surface with an etched motif of two wheat stalks on the two flanking side handles which are slightly elevated from the horizontal and cantilver outwards. The platter is signed on the base with an etched cursive signature Lalique France . The design is typical of the elegant and understated glassware designs produced by Rene Lalique during the Art Deco period. Regrettably the tray has two small frits on the outer rim close to the point where the handle meets the long side of the tray. A glass restorer should be able to polish or buff the side profile to improve the finish or possibly to use a clear resin fill to smooth the surface. This is a decent size platter which could be used for serving drinks or entrees/starters. As a price comparison in perfect condition similar items sell for 600- 900 euros. Postage for this item is R120 via Postnet or R140 for courier to major cities in SA. Collection is welcome from Emmerantia Jhb.
