Vintage Lanarkshire Yeomanry cap badge in gilding metal with double-headed eagle and Kings Crown. Collectable British cavalry insignia.
This item is a vintage Lanarkshire Yeomanry cap badge, produced in gilding metal (brass alloy). The insignia is the distinctive double-headed eagle, surmounted by a Kings Crown, a design sometimes referred to as the Habsburg Eagle.
The design originates from the Arms of the Royal Burgh of Lanark in Scotland. This pattern (without a title scroll) was worn during two periods of the regiments history, and the presence of the Kings Crown suggests manufacture before 1953. Earlier examples were also worn between 19081915, and a sealed pattern date of 11 January 1952 is recorded for this style.
The Lanarkshire Yeomanry was a cavalry regiment of the British Army, first raised in 1819 in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The regiment later served as artillery and infantry in subsequent reorganisations and saw service during both World Wars.
