Lapeirousia is a genus with about 40 species in the Iridaceae family that is found across sub-Saharan Africa from Nigeria and Ethiopia to the southwestern Cape. Leaves are flat and curved to narrow and pleated. Lapeirousia barklyi is a South African indigenous species from the Northern Cape Province, extending to Namibia. It grows to 12cm tall with a short stem and narrow lanceolate leaves. This very attractive species bears large deep pink flowers with white markings during spring.
