Lapeirousia is a genus with about 40 species in the Iridaceae family that is found across sub-Saharan Africa from Nigeria and Ethiopia to the southwestern Cape. Leaves are flat and curved to narrow and pleated. Lapeirousia divaricata is a South African endemic species from the Northern Cape and Western Cape Provinces. Afrikaans vernacular names include Kabong and Paletblaar. It was previously known as Chasmatocallis macowanii, Gladiolus setifolius and Lapeirousia setifolia. It grows from 7cm to 25cm tall and during spring it bears white to pale pink flowers with red markings in the throats. It is normally encountered in damp sandy areas.
