Large African Hardwood Sculpture – Elder Carrying Stick – Hand-Carved 1.2 m Masterpiece

Magnificent hand-carved African hardwood sculpture depicting an elderly man carrying a stick over his shoulder a traditional symbol of wisdom, endurance, and the journey through life. This striking figure has been carved from a single solid block of dense hardwood, most likely mahogany or kiaat (Pterocarpus angolensis), giving it substantial weight (±20 kg) and presence.

Standing approximately 1.2 metres tall, the sculpture showcases remarkable craftsmanship with expressive detailing in the face, posture, hands, and feet characteristic of mid-20th-century Southern African tribal art. The warm natural patina developed over decades enhances its authenticity and visual depth.
