This investment-grade export statement piece features a traditional straight-sided pankou silhouette distinguished by a completely raw, unglazed biscuit base visible along the bottom edge. The outer walls showcase a striking panelled patchwork motif decorated with masterfully hand-painted overglaze polychrome accents.
Vibrant overglaze iron-red chrysanthemums and hand-enamelled flowering prunus (plum blossom) branches contrast deeply with rich panels of underglaze cobalt blue floral scrollwork. The hand-applied mineral enamels are laid on thick, creating a gorgeous raised, three-dimensional tactile texture across the patterns, complete with finely brushed butterfly details flying above the blooms.
Did You Know? In Chinese ceramic tradition, low straight-sided round vessels like this were intentionally crafted to grow forced flower bulbs, such as narcissus (paperwhites) or orchids, using small river stones and water.
