ANTIQUE DUTCH EMBOSSED BRASS COAL BOX

Large and imposing piece!

Fabulous decor item that can double as storage space!

Very nice old piece with lots of character and estimated to be close to a hundred years old.

Four different scenes are embossed on the brass. The one on the lid looks like a medieval bar fight!

Overall the condition is pretty good. There is no damage to the brass apart from small, normal age related dents and dings, much needed to add character.

Structurally the box is sturdy. On the one side at the back the nails have been removed and replaced with screws to secure the side panel. A previous attempt at repair had splintered some wood off the interior of the side panel as can be seen in the last image. This is not structural and the side panel is secure. The screws on the hinges have also been replaced.

It used to have steel castors to easily move it around, but these are long gone.

To retain the the patina we have not tried to clean or polish the brass.

Measurements are 55cm long x 31cm wide, with a height of 43cm at the tallest point.

The lid has an overhang of 3cm at the front and sides.
