Large antique stoneware flagon with handle and stamped S.R.D. - WW1 soldier rum ration jug. Apparently these are rum jars that were issued to WW1 soldiers on the Somme front. It is marked S.R.D. for "Service Rations Depot" or "Supply Reserve Depot", depending where you research them. Soldiers were given a daily ration of the rum to keep them warm. The item is large, measuring 33cm x 17cm. It has a wire handle on the top. The flagon is in good condition for its age and taking into consideration its history. It has a couple of chips on the rim of the top. A lovely piece of history for your collection.
