Offered for sale is a striking Shelley Art Deco style vase dating to circa the 1920's. The vase is triangular in shape with tall flat sides and a slightly flaring upper rim. The vase is ceramic/earthenware glazed in white and spray painted/airbrushed in a vibrant tangerine-orange colour which was the height of fashion at the time ( a colour the Argentinians call Tango ). The decorative motif is transfer printed with hand painted colour accents. The pattern has a strong Japonisme/Orientalist flavour depicting cranes in flight , one panel with two birds and the other sides with one bird. The top of the vase has a decorative band/border in a black lattice like pattern with cartouches painted with flowers. The base of the vase has the Shelley imprint in green in a shield and the Made in England declaration together with hand painter serial numbers in black probably the shape/decor codes.
