A large collection of loose leaves from the Illustration London News, 1850s.
These have been extracted from disbound volumes of this pioneering illustrated newspaper.
There are well over 100 leaves, containing very many wood-engraved illustrations. Some would frame, I believe.
Time travel! From this collection, you will get a real sense of what mattered in London during the 1850s.
A brief sampling of the illustrations:
'Mount Etna' at the Surrey Zoological Gardens
The Royal Thames Yacht Club Match
Conservatory to be attached to the new Italian Opera House, Covent Garden
Mode of Anchor testing at Her Majesty's Dockyard, Woolwich
Manchester, from Kersall Moor
The Gallery of Modern Painters, Art-Treasures Exhibition, Manchester
The Preston Strike
... and much, much more.
Condition varies from fair to good. As might be expected, some soiling, creasing, and a few tears.
