It is a beautiful work of African art, the bao, from Swahili Bao, meaning board/board of the game of bao, is a traditional board game from East Africa, including Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Comoros, Malawi, Burundi and part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, while being especially popular in Kenya and Tanzania.

It is the most widespread game in the Mancala family, a set of African count and capture type games in which pebbles, seeds or shells are distributed in cups or holes.
